Prioritising the health of our Spinoni
At BOSCANO Italian Spinoni UK, the health and well-being of our dogs are paramount. We are committed to ethical breeding practices, ensuring that every puppy born into our family has the best possible start. Learn about our rigorous health testing and how it benefits our beloved Spinoni and their future families.

Our commitment to genetic health
Before any of our Italian Spinoni are considered for breeding, they undergo comprehensive DNA testing. This proactive approach allows us to identify and manage potential genetic conditions, ensuring that we breed only the healthiest dogs. We believe this is a fundamental step in responsible breeding and reflects our dedication to the breed's long-term health.
Cerebellar Ataxia (CA) - Health Certification (CR)
- Definition: Cerebellar Ataxia is a progressive, fatal neurodegenerative disease that causes impaired balance, incoordination, and walking difficulties. Symptoms usually appear around four months of age, with affected dogs often requiring euthanasia by one year old.

Thorough hip and eye examinations
In addition to DNA screening, all our breeding dogs receive professional hip x-rays and BVA eye tests. These crucial examinations help us assess joint health and detect any hereditary eye conditions, ensuring that our Spinoni are free from these concerns before they become parents. Our goal is to contribute to a healthy future for the Italian Spinone breed.
Our dogs are x rayed for Hips and go through a BVA Eye Test and CA DNA Test.
Their plates and joint need time to grow and close so no slippery floors, no going upstairs, no jumping on sofa or in cars whilst under 14 months of age. 5 minutes exercise per month of birth twice a day from 10 weeks of age. From 2 years old the joints and plates are finished.

Healthy puppies for happy families
Our meticulous health testing benefits every single puppy we breed. When both parents are certified 'Clear' for CA (Cerebellar Ataxia) through DNA testing, the entire litter is guaranteed to be 'Clear' of this condition. This rigorous process provides invaluable peace of mind to our puppy families, ensuring they welcome a healthy, vibrant companion into their home.
